I believe I have stated elsewhere my belief that William Browning Spencer is an amazing writer. In this his newest collection "The Unorthodox Dr. Draper and Other Stories", the publisher has chosen the perfect title as that story (the last in this collection), in my humble opinion, is the finest...

Spencer turns out yet another collection of stories that simultaneously move, amuse, and surprise the reader. Here his tales undermine narrative expectations repeatedly, yet still manage to satisfy. Review of THE UNORTHODOX DR. DRAPER AND OTHER STORIES
by William Browning Spencer
Irony is the key here, irony and Lovecraft. Think those two themes don't work well together? Try this collection of stories (and a delightful Lovecraftian poem). These aren't usually laugh-out-loud humour, but they ar...

Wonderful collection of stories
If you don't seem out Spencer's stories you are missing great treasures. He sees thru different eyes and allows us to look over his shoulder.
Before the first tale, his author's note had me laughing and already knowing I would love this book too!
Very much a modern da...

Truthfully, I think Spencer is a talented writer. His writing style is poetic without being too much so, offering a stylistic picture of the horror/humor stories he writes. The tales in The Unorthodox Dr. Draper and Other Stories were often cerebral, with good twists and an element of psychologic...

Mr. Spencer's output is not large, so whenever he publishes a novel or collection, it's cause for great celebration, especially when the stories are as eerie, dark, disturbing and wonderful as these. I have yet to read anything by this author that I didn't love, and that streak continues with The...
